Hello and welcome to my website. I’m a Scottish writer and editor living in Glasgow, with an interest in medical archive and asylum history…
I’m a classical musician and broadcaster by training but increasingly my interest in story has taken over. Wanting to learn more, read more and develop my work, I recently completed MLitt and PhD degrees in creative writing at the University of Glasgow, putting my fiction and life-writing out into the world. With specialised interest across both academic and creative areas, I’ve developed collaborative projects, introducing writers and artists to arts and health archives. Details can be found here on the ‘Projects’ page.
These connected activities fed my imagination, and I wrote more and extended the reach of my collaborative work. In 2023 I was shortlisted in a major literary competition which led to being signed by an agent – there’s more about my debit novel ‘The Legacy of Gabriel Thorne’ on his page! My research in mental health archives, and especially the history of Gartnavel Royal Asylum, introduced me to a piece of Glasgow history that’s largely forgotten. Inventing characters to allow it to become better-known was an exciting process, and I’m looking forward to my novel finding a publisher.
I continue to be involved in the writing world as creator and editor – I believe one feeds off and benefits the other, always – and can’t wait to explore new stories and archives. Thanks for visiting, and for reading!
